Then you would be one of those users that would beg for a decent 
pinning/filtering mechanism in yum, apt or up2date. Like I do.

apt has a pinning/filtering mechanism, but it is very difficult to use and 
doesn't allow everything that makes sense.

pinning/filtering could also be used for upgrading a distribution without 
relying on increased epoch/version/release numbers.
