NTFS rpm: sporadic freezing on boot

I installed the ntfs rpm for i686 for 2.4.22-1.2115.nptl.

 

It seems to have produced a sporadic consequence: about 50 percent of the
time the system will freeze on boot.  It seems to happen on around the
etc/fstab and host login (sorry I am quite novice and don't really know what
that means).

 

Thoughts?

 

Is this symptomatic of an incorrect rpm?  I am certain of 2.4.22-1.2115.nptl
but not as to i686.
