Because I had situations, where up2date did not work but yum did.
Up2date hung during resolving dependencies or just died without a
reason, while yum tells you what's going on (gives you an error message
about 404 error or whatever).

If you ask me what I recommend the answer is apt, for several reasons:
- There's a damn good GUI, synaptic.
- It's much faster than yum: For a simple query you need to be online
and download new headers, while "apt-cache search <package>" takes only
a second.
