kernel 2.4.23 and graphical boot

is anyone else having problems getting the graphical boot to cooperate
with kernel 2.4.23?? i have an NVIDIA 4600ti and recompiled the driver
for it, and X and everything else works slick as anything but graphical
boot has croaked, i checked the grub kernel line and even reinstalled
the rhgb rpm, but still no go, it really doesn't make much difference to
me, it is an interesting puzzle however and will drive me nuts until i
figure out why it won't go.
