Put it this way; I'm running 4.1.1 on RH8 and it's trouble free, despite the
heavy use I make of RPM. I haven't tried 4.2.1, and I haven't tried using
RH9/Severn as a base platform either. On distros with NPTL-enabled kernels
(i.e. RH9+) it may also be well worth setting $LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 (e.g.
"LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 rpm -ivh foo-1.2.3-4.i386.rpm").
