Sure if you are foolish enough to use a binary driver, but that's not
what I'm advocating at all.

Yes, but he did mention he didn't want to use the raid features.
Promise's binary raid driver's are more trouble than they're worth, but
the chipset is a better than average ide controller. As a pure ide

Yes Rick's faq is a great place to start if you are looking for a
SATA controller. However the Promise FastTrak 133, and HighPoint 372
are PATA.
