Check with the drive manufacturer and see if you come up with
anything.
You didn't say what the hardware was, but several boxes of blank
DVDs
I've gotten lately came with a card warning that certain models
of Pioneer
DVD writers could be destroyed by writing DVD-RW/DVD+RW discs
without a firmware upgrade.
  It sounded crazy to me, but I guess it happens. It's a long
shot, but
maybe your drives have a similar problem. I'd also check
ventilation. These
drives are known to get pretty hot when burning.
