up2date stays in the S state on Top

I've just installed Fedora Core 1 and as a test I've been trying to use
up2date. Specifically update -u -v. After a few message about what packages
I have installed or need to update, the up2date command stalls at this
point:

Testing package set / solving RPM inter-dependencies...

The Status column from top shows that the process status changes from "R" to
"S" at this point?

Any ideas how I can get this work properly?
