apt source.list

I'm trying to add URL's to the source.list for my local mirror
and get an error about 'ill formed source',there is little help
for the rpm version of apt it is nearly all debian and very different
to /etc/apt/source.list.d/mirror.select.

What is the format (with example please) for this file,I've looked
around the net including Conectiva but nothing helps
