off topic: Installed FC2-test-2 and lost ps/2 mouse

Hello list;
  I am posting from W98se which feels really wierd.
I installed FC2-test-2 on a good system with an Artec A4 PS/2 Trackball and lost it.
The mouse does not work in command line or X.
I have restarted gpm and edited the crap out of /etc/X11/XF86Config.
I have searched the archives and the web and need help.
 
I know that there is a "Test" list but my mailbox is jammed up and I cannot subscribe to it at the moment.
 
My system is an older Athlon Classic Slot-A 650, 256M mem.
Asus motherboard with the VIA chipset.

I have tried all cominations of  thr commented lines in the above.

It just bombs out without starting, yje above combo shows me the mouse cursor but I cannot move it or click.
