yum update 2179 kernel

Yeah, sounds like your problem is more complicated than mine was.  The 
only problems I saw after I updated my kernel is that the default kernel 
did not change to 2179, but it did show up in GRUB at boot.  All I did 
was change the default and I was up and going.

Now, for you, I'd recommend you run "yum update" another time to see if 
it can't finish the job.  Then reboot.  If no joy there, I personally 
would back up my data NOW and take a chance and get webmin to try and do 
the job.  If you've got a day or two to see more posts on this for better 
advice, you would be wise to get them all before making any moves.
