FC1 and Laptops?

i'm not sure if someone already mentioned this, but:

getting fc1 to work on my alienware 51m's wide screen display sucks, it
XF86 won't display the 1680x1050 properly, it only does 14??x1050, so
everything's warped... i have an ati card, though i've heard that the
nvidia's aren't too hard to do...

because of this, and the fact that the apm doesn't work properly with fc1,
i only use my trusty old dell inspiron 4000 (700mhz 256mb 40gb compared to
the alien's 2.8ghz 768mb 40gb)

oh, and don't get anything overpowered, you'll just wind up going through
your battery's charge like nothing. a pentium-m at 1ghz would do you
well, if you're not looking to game.
