cdplayer does not send output to sound card.

My sound card is an intel 810....integrated with the celeron based 
Motherboard...I can hear the sound card test sound but not the CD 
Player....I will open the PC case to check if I see the cable from the CDROM 
to the board....the lttle cable that usually go straight from the CD rom to 
a separate Sound Card (this is something a friend of mine just recommended 
me to verify)

1. if the cable is disconnected...I'll connected and try...
2. if the cable is connected or non-existent.....

...I also need help suggestions....
