GnoChm can read chm file direct. Somehow this is not that stable.
archmage is a utility that can convert chm to html which can be read by
any browser.
http://archmage.sourceforge.net/
arCHMage, version 0.0.6
usage: archmage <chmfile> <destdir> -- extracts <chmfile> into
directory <destdir>
archmage -p <port> <chmfile> -- acts as http server on port
<port>, so you can read <chmfile> with your favourite browser.
