Wonderful :(( You certainly installed gnome 2.6 packages from the
wildlife. Please fix your own or blame the packager if installing such
packages break your system. Maybe that was a lesson to not trust any
source just because it claims to be packages for Fedora Core X.

xinitd sound not just unimportant in my ears. You can run following
command to find out which packages come from the repository above, from
which I heard it did damage lots of systems:

rpm -qa --qf "%{packager} - %{name} %{version}\n" | sort

Sorry Andreas, that repository and the fact it has Gnome 2.6 says all.
Btw. gdm means gnome display manager.
