fc2_64 boot manager hangs computer

I recently installed fc2_64 on an AMD 64 computer and when it starts up, 
it locks up as soon as the boot manager appears.
The mother board is an MSI K8T NEO series with sata, pata and promise 
capabilities. The only hard disk is an IDE ultra 80 gig. It is a new 
drive. I previously had fc2_64 installed on a 30 gig hard drive on this 
same machine nd it did the same thing.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
