Also, with your wifi (and any other network connection(s) ) I
recommend Quickswitch at
http://muthanna.com/quickswitch as it helps you switch network
profiles quickly and painlessly on any flavor of linux. I've been
using it for about 4 years and what a life saver.
It's written in Perl and is very easy to configure and use.
You asked about languages to learn, well I'm a Perl programmer and
definitely recommend learning Perl. It's one of the most useful
languages and is extremely powerful. Have a look at
http://learn.perl.org for more info on what to read and how to get
started.
