Cannot connect to pop server

Nothing. I have:

$telnet pop.swing.be 110
Trying 195.238.3.114...
Connected to pop.swing.be.
Escape character is '^]'.

and then hangs instead of having a nice "+OK ready ..." answer, as
obtained on other pop servers

Well, I've tried a bruto nmap on it :-( . Only port 110 is open
