If the mounted filesystem is big, sometimes fam ( the file monitor process
) is scanning the whole filesystem when user wanna unmount it. I think that
exist a procedure to avoid fam to scan some directories/filesystems, but I
haven't tried it

good trick is to use
lsof -n | grep mountpoint
to find out which process has a finger on the mounter filesystem. A common
culprit is the current working directory of a bash shell.
