Redistributing hard drive space

This is what I have done and would do.

1) Determine what you want to use the partition for (S.A. /usr)

2) Reformat the partition 
   A) Fdisk to the format you want ext3, NTFS, reister ---
   B) Format the partition and mount it.
   C) Copy all data to the new partition and verify it.
   D) Erase the data in the old directory(s).
   E) Change /etc/fstab.
