ATI Rage Mobility with Xorg - anyone got this working

Perhaps the problem with Xorg on the Picturebooks
with ATI Rage Mobility
(more specifically, Rage Mobility P/M)
lies in the display rather than the video card.

It would be nice if there was a way to compare the commands given
by the card in XFree86 and Xorg.
Is this possible?
