How to recover the Trash icon

I had something similar happen.  I lost all my mime-type info.  Are your
other files showing the same in Nautilus?  What I had to do on my box is
re-install every package that was related to mime-type information.  I
don't remember what CD's you would need, I did it with synaptic.
