I picked up the tarballs from
	 http://www.gnu.org/software/mit-scheme
and followed the instructions ....  ./configure; make; etc....

Remember that the binary might have been Compiled on Debian GNU/Linux 3.0.
thus you need to configure/ make... if that is the case.
