I get "grub>" on boot ... ?

At the grub prompt you need to pass grub the proper instructions to
boot. I just wonder what you did that grub did not install himself the
correct way.

root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.8-1.521 ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb quiet
initrd /initrd-2.6.8-1.521.img

Type that in, line after line. For the root partition (hd0,0) you will
of course have to use the proper one for your host. If you type in the
command partly and then use <TAB> key it will give you valid
completitions.

After the system booted you should  reinstall grub using "grub-install
/dev/hdX" (with valid X). If above fails boot with CD1 in rescue mode
and install grub properly.
