The driver builds and runs just fine from source actually, and *is*
being maintained by the kernel hackers, it's just that it's lagging
behind because it's old hardware that relatively few people use any
longer, and it's not been fully converted to the 2.6 DMA architecture. I
believe it's for this reason that it doesn't get built by default and is
not included in Fedora kernels.

I'm the person that's done the dkms package for the advansys driver. If
you try it and have any problems I'd be very keen to get it fixed. Do
you still use dkms for anything else (sounds like not)? If so, trying
out the dkms build shouldn't cause any problems/conflicts for you.
