Try this as root : 
> sane-find-scanner says the following:
> found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON], product=0x011b [EPSON Scanner]) at libusb:001:006

chmod 0666 /proc/bus/usb/001/006

(coming from libusb:001:006)
