He didn't say to turn off the network service, just to tell the network
card not to activate on boot.  Either use the GUI or change the
appropriate /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth? file to say
"ONBOOT=no".  IMHO the bug is that anaconda sets it to "yes" for PCMCIA
cards.
