Not getting a GUI interface after installation

Sounds like something is corrupted with your KDE or GNOME, or they
were not chosen on install time. I think you are looking at twm which
it will default to if there is a problem.

You should be able to right click and choose 'exit'. Then you will be
back at the login screen. Hopefully then you can log in with username
and password and get to a command line. Then try the command

startx

and hopefully that will get you to the desktop. You can also switch
desktops by running the command

switchdesk GNOME or
switchdesk KDE

depending on what you want to switch to.
