Well you removed 'localhost' entry - which is a no-no.

Use:

127.0.0.1       localhost.localdomain   localhost
127.0.0.1       server.localdomain      server


> HOSTNAME=server.localdomain

I would just use 'server' instead of 'server.localdomain'
