Is udev/hotplug running? What is /dev/cdrom say? What does /media/cdrom
say?
Try "eject /dev/cdrom" to see if it works

No, seems to be some udev wonky-ness. Report what version of udev you
have (rpm -qa udev)
Make sure you're running Core 3 with all the updates applied
