That might well be the truth since there are only seven messages in this thread
when viewed using gmail. However, none I read mentioned this was a laptop.
So, if in laptops no cable runs from the soundcard to the cdrom/dvd-rom, it
means you have to use a digital connexion to get sound. Not all sound apps
in Linux support this. For those that do, you have to set this up manually for
the most part.
