Installation problems on centrino laptop

Some more information;
I just tried again, with acpi=off, and it's hanging on
"gnome-panel-2.8.1-3.i386".
I'm installing off of a burned dvd that I downloaded the iso. The
installation media recieved a pass in the test phase.
