Soundcard not working ?

Many thanks for your assistance.

I used the system-config-soundcard tool previously and it correctly identifies
the card. I went through all the sound settings and found that most of the
essential ones had been muted by default. so I unchecked these. Also by
default the sound levels were set to the lowest output. I have increased
this and I can now get sound but it it only barely audible - extremely low
even though I have sound levels set to maximum. Appreciate any advice.
