MMX missing in Fedora 3? (transcode problem)

I am having unresolved symbols when compiling
transcode.

I am using fedora 3 on an amd k6 400MHz.
typicly I am getting undefined symbol: pred_comp_mmx,
even when i try to pass --disable-mmx.
I can not remember having the same problems under
fedora 2 or 1.
What am I missing?
