Gerhard,

You may want to take a look at k3b.  I've had good success with both CDs
and DVDs.  There has been chatter on the Fedora lists about errors
verifying the md5sum of the media, but the errors seem to related to the
application and in fact the CD was burned correctly.

Remove the hdc=ide-scsi from the kernel command line.  cdrecord will
work without it, if you use dev=/dev/hdc instead of the ide-scsi
specific dev=1,0,0.  

If you want to try xcdroast, I suggest using the ATAPI device(s) when
you configure it, but I have not tried it.
