Service network restart

Hello out there,

I wanted to restart my network so I tried 'service network restart'. It
didn't work so I had to execute '/sbin/service network restart'. I added
the '/sbin/service' to my PATH but I cannot run 'service' without giving
the '/sbin/' path even after adding this to the path.

What must I do to get this to work and how do you add and remove s.th.
to the path anyway? (which commands)
