OK, makes sense. The closest I could find to "firefox/plugins" was the
directory /usr/lib/firefox-0.10.1. I created a subdirectory "plugins"
and put the link
to /usr/java/jre1.5.0/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so there. I
still keep getting these perplexing firefox messages (now from several
webpages.)

Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page.
Install Missing Plugins

Plugin Finder Service. Available Plugin Downloads. The following
plugins are available: Sun Java J2SE50 (box is checked). Press Next to
install these plugins.

Completing the Plugin Finder Service. Firefox finished installing the
missing plugins: Sun Java J2SE50. Not Available. Manual Install
(button)

...and "Manual Install" takes me back to the J2SE 5.0 downloads page
(http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp) where I have already
downloaded "JRE 5.0 Update 1" (Download JRE)
