CD drive mounting troubles

well yes, and thats as it should be. However thats not the problem. The 
problem appears to be that regular users are unable to mount or use the 
CD drive except for burning. Presently only root is able to mount and 
read CD's in the drive. This condition suggests a permissions problem 
and I'm unsure as to just where to look to solve the mystery.
