Some sites don't work with Firefox (FC3)?

 Nevermind ... whatever it stands for, it worked. But where is that 
documented--what is it doing, and why do I need it? I may not be a guru, but 
I like to at least vaguely understand what I'm doing at some level, instead 
of just rote typing ...
