new kernel but doesn\'t show up in grub at system boot

Okay.  To get your new kernel to boot, it has to be located in the /boot
directory structure. I'm assuming this is where you'll find your old
kernel too.  You should be able to use it as an example.  For me, the
file to edit for grub is /boot/grub/grub.conf.
