JPackage Sun Java crashes Firefox

I installed the JPackage java-1.4.2-sun-1.4.2.06 RPM, and now many of the
Java sites that I visit crash Firefox.  I am using firefox-1.0-2.fc3.

Running from the command line shows the following.

    [mjs at vincent52 ~]$ firefox
    *** glibc detected *** double free or corruption (fasttop): 0x081d3ff0 ***

An example site that illustrates the failure:

    http://www.princeton.edu/~rvdb/JAVA/pivot/simple.html

Not every applet causes the failure.  For example, a non-interactive
applet at

    http://www.princeton.edu/~rvdb/

loads and runs with no problem.

Anyone else experiencing this?  How can I get more information to isolate
whether this is a Firefox or Java issue?
