I don't think you are missing anything .. I've posted twice to this list
asking if someone else had the same problem .. but it seems you're the
only one so far..

Just to compare .. what is your configuration like?

I have:

P4 3.06GHz HT
512MB DDR-RAM
Matrox P650 Graphics
Fresh install of FC3 with all of GNOME

Also, I have just discovered something very interesting ..

if I run 'gnome-theme-manager' with 'strace' everything is fine and it
does not crash!

	$ strace gnome-theme-manager

	[...bunch of system calls and signals...]


It's a pretty funny situation when something works when you try to debug
it but crashes when you run it normally ..
