arts in KDE 3.2

I'm in somewhat of a quandary here. I can use konstruct and build the
entire KDE 3.2 system from source. Everything works fine except for:
1. kcheckpass . . . I cannot unlock the screen saver, and no combination
of SGID, SUID, ownerships seem to work.
2. I cannot reliably add icons to the panel or KStart menu.
If I install everything from the rpms, the applications work as
expected. However, I then run into the following issues.
1. No ALSA (as reported earlier)
2. Applications like amarok compile but do not work (worked via
Konstruct).
I noticed that libglib is a bit different via rpms than a straight
compile and install. I also noticed that libmng is missing the libtool
file.
I rebuilt libmng and installed it. I was then able to compile other
systems based on the rpm install.
However, when I tried to recompile arts from source and just install the
daemon, that failed miserably.
Right now I'm running OSS drivers, but I am missing a lot of the
functionality of my sound card (TurtleBeach Santa Cruz). I would like
to get ALSA working with the rpm install of KDE 3.2.
Help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance . . .
