Newbie type question

Hey guys

I have a computer running Rh9, here's the problem it's running gnome
interface unfortunately the mouse port is dead on the unit I need. I need to
know a) how to call up a terminal session with just a keyboard and b)I have
some famliarity with vnc server I was wondering how do I register that to
start automatically each time so I can use another computer to control that
system.
