Hmmm.
As with most of my third-party software, I just download it, compile it,
and install it.
Fortunately Firefox is already compiled and ready to go. I downloaded
firefox-0.8-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz (since I don't like the fonts on
the other version), uncompressed it, untarred it, put the appropriate
entries on my menu, and I was good to go.
I made the link from
/usr/java/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so to the plugin
directory under firefox (firefox/plugins) for java. I made the link for
the flash plugin. I added the gxine plugin. Everything is fine and
working.
It's my default browser. I use Evolution for my mail client, and one of
these days I'll do the hack to Firefox that allows it to call external
mail programs for the mailto: protocol.
All in all, a pretty painless operation.
