TOP Question

I've noticed an entry in "TOP" that I don't remember
seeing before, nor is it listed in the man pages.

In the memory section there is a display called
"active" and inactive", that lists the size of memory
for these two.

What is inactive memory?

What's the difference between used memory and active memory?
