Gnome makes a stop when loading after instaling alsa

Since I installed ALSA I have a stop at the beginning of the gnome
session.  The stop lasts for almos 5 seconds and didn't happen before. 
It looks like it stops when loading the volume applet.  This only
happens when I log in the first time.  If I log off and log in again,
there is no stop.

Does anyone know what's going on?
