How-to auto-start programmes when I connect to Internet?

I'm not sure whether you are using Gnome or KDE. But I use KDE and I
just pop a link into the ~/home/.kde/autostart directory (Where ever
it's located on your system), and the app or apps start when I start
KDE. (I have DSL, so it's on anyway)
