up2date connects to xmlrpc.rhn.redhat.com? necessary?

Hi,
my fedora pc is only allowed to connect
to the repositories I configure in ../rhn/sources.

But it seems up2date hangs if it cannot connect to
xmlrpc.rhn.redhat.com

strace of up2date
connect(5, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(443), 
sin_addr=inet_addr("66.187.232.101")}, 16 <unfinished ...>

Then up2date hangs.
