Switching from GNOME to KDE causes nasty display bug

Hi folks,

Using FC1 on an IBM TP T30 and an external ViewSonic flat panel and external 
Microsoft optical mouse. Lovely combination - I love it. 

Been using GNOME since Day 1. Just for grins I used the Desktop Switching Tool 
to try out KDE, and got a really weird result.

The login screen displayed, and the mouse pointer was on the far left side of 
the screen. When I moved the mouse, the mouse pointer didn't move - the 
display moved under it. (Kind of like scroll-lock was on.) 

In other words, when I moved the mouse to the right, the mouse pointer stayed 
in the same place at the left edge, and the login text box moved from the 
center of the screen to the left side. And the left side of the display 
started to wrap around on the far right side.

If I moved the mouse to the left, the display would wrap the other way.

Took me a few minutes of jiggering around just to switch back to GNOME and 
then log off. When I did so, the display froze and I had to shut the box off 
and cold boot. Everything is fine now (back in GNOME.)

I searched the archives and googled but couldn't find any mention of a 
GNOME/KDE switching bug.

Any ideas?
